Vietnamese Translation World
Translating an English document into Vietnamese is like localizing exotic contents.
Unlike translating English into French or Spanish, translating an English document into Vietnamese is like localizing exotic contents to most Vietnamese translators- mainly due to cultural differences, different grammatical structure and different manner an object is described. As a result, it is a highly creative task which calls for literary skill, logical mind and extensive translating experience at the same time.
You might be surprised to find that so many business-critical English documents of multi-national firms (including even the Vietnamese web pages of a well-known multi-language translation vendor) are often so poorly translated into Vietnamese that they are awkward and difficult to read.
Many translation agencies advertise about their employing native translators, implying that they produce acceptable quality. According to our experience in translating English into Vietnamese, however, most Vietnamese who are second-generation Americans lack in sophistication for understanding their mother tongues completely. As a result, most of them need extensive training and experience before they can be qualified for translators. If translators are first-generation immigrants with fair command in English, many of them still lack in other competency including writing and translating skill.
In Vietnam, there are hundreds of thousands Vietnamese with English-language background, but it is difficult to find a good, experienced translator. As a president of a korean translation agency puts it, finding a good translator is as difficult as finding a natural pearl in the beach.
